What engine will fit in a 98 Monte LS

My engine is blown. I figure if I have to replace it I might as well upgrade.


Can anyone tell me what engines will fit without a lot of work? I'd like more ponies under the hood but I don't wanna have to do a lot of modification.

The current engine is a 3.1 I suspect since my Monte is a LS model.

I searched previous posts but nine out of ten engine swap threads are either a different year/model or the only thing people have to say is "that wont work"

Please offer some info here.

whats up... you can put a 3.4 DHOC, 3.8 V6 or 3.8 supercharged for more info you can check out these sites www.mymonte.com and http://www.milzymotorsports.com

I'm not positive, but I believe the 3.8L has a different transmission with it....wondering if you'd have to change that too.

If you're thinking about going to the 3.4, I'd suggest you do a search to see what the opinions of that engine are.

How much would replacing an engine cost? I know my engine might be on it's way out, it's got over 200,000 Miles on it, and is the 3.8L V6 (the 3800 Series II)
