3/4 ton vs 3/4 HD Silverado
Can someone please differentiate the differences between the 3/4 ton vs 3/4 HD Silverado?
I currently own a 1500 half ton and am considering upgrading in order to tow a utility trailer and possibly a 5th wheel type camper. Also is there a big differnce between the 3/4 HD vs a 1 ton Silverado? Thanks!!!! |

the 2500HD has bigger springs and a heavier frame than the 2500. I believe they also have options for heavier duty cooling systems (radiator, trans cooler, oil cooler...). I could be wrong, but I think the 2500HD is available with a diesel engine, where the 2500 is not. The 3500 has a narrower frame and rougher ride than the 2500HD. The 3500 also probably has even heavier options than the 2500HD.

Re: 3/4 ton vs 3/4 HD Silverado
Hi J-Ri:
Thanks for the info!!! Can anyone else confirm if the 3500 has a narrower width that the 2500HD? That's just bizarre figuring that the 3500 should be a heavier duty truck... |

Re: 3/4 ton vs 3/4 HD Silverado
The 6.0 1500HD, 2500 and 2500HD are the same truck (frame, brakes and suspension). What is different - the rear axle ratio. The 3.73 gears on the 1500HD and 2500 limit towing to under 10,000 lbs so they are not considered HD. When you order the 4.10 gears or the 8.1 or the DuraMax the badging is changed to 2500HD which reflects the greater towing rating. Chevy did this for several years - I think 2001 - 2005, but have now dropped the 2500. You either get the 1500HD (under 10K towing) or 2500HD (over 10K towing). I beleive the narrow frame on the 3500HD trucks is only in the rear to allow of dual wheels.
