98 Jimmy won't start.....

98 GMC Jimmy. 4WD, AT, 4.3 Vortech

The truck will not start. It turns over fine but no fire I'm assuming. Pressure tested for faulty fuel pump but it was pushig 61 psi. I checked the coil also. It's getting fire to it but not from it. I replaced it and same problem.

Also, the service engine light does not come on. This started today when the truck would not start. I'm not sure if that means anything, but thought it was worth a mention. I am lost on what to check now.

Thanks for any help.

Re: 98 Jimmy won't start.....

Does that mean coil has voltage to it and no spark out (easy test is ohm test the coil wire and see if good or use a plug wire to the coil and a plug and ground the plug base and turn engine over - use gloves). If no spark and a new coil possible ign module mounted with the coil or crank sensor failed so no pickup pulse. No one has a tester for the 98up ign modules I found at the auto stores - dealer only.

Replace the cap/rotor if a spark as step #1 as they can have multi sparks and you will never find it - ever if its not them you have to rule them out as #1 or possibly waste many hours. Get Delco or standard motor products but not Wells.

Bad ignition module. Replaced it and all is well.
