2001 Montana ABS light and Trac On Light

A week ago I cleaned the inside of the right rear brake drum with brake cleaner spray. I also sprayed silicone on all rubber seals around the right and left rear wheels. Did this to resolve problem of groaning sound when brakes were engaged.

Now the ABS light and Trac On lights are coming on and staying on. If I disconnect the battery positive terminal temporarily, then reconnect, both lights go out. But, after driving for awhile the next day they come back on.

Any ideas?

Re: 2001 Montana ABS light and Trac On Light

I've seen this one. Not sure if my experiences will help.

Check the brake fluid level. Sounds simple but it cured my problem.

Check the vacuum line from upper intake manifold to brake master cylinder. I found the plastic fitting the screws into the upper intake was lose; I cranked it one turn - since it's plastic, only apply minor force. This was found when I replace the intake gaskets.

The " groaning " sound you refer to to is the abs kicking back. I will almost bet the farm you have a bad wheel spped sensor. Very, very and very just like any GM product. I bet if you drive at or below 3-4 miles an hour it will not do it. the sensor's get dirty and you have to replace the hub' if it is in the front. If you have areally good tech and he has alot of time on his hands he get it cleaned up fpr you. Don't happen to often. When you get below around 5kph it will drop to zero and the other 3 wheels are still reporting movement so it triggers anti lock. Tadum. The noise. Get it scanned. The TCS goes along with the abs. Same info.

Re: 2001 Montana ABS light and Trac On Light

Just wanted to update this to say the problem has gone away. It took a few times of disconnecting the battery (over the course of a week) until finally the lights didn't come back on. No clue why, but it worked.
