Bank One Sensor One
Daughters car........1994 V-6 Camry. Had Auto Zone pull the engine code and they tell me I have problems with the O2 sensor on Bank One Sensor One. No big deal until I decide its the sensor nearest to the firewall. You can just barely get a 22mm wrench on the senor and I had no idea how I was going to unplug the sensor from the wiring harness. The plug is stuck behind a bunch of plumbing and the intake. So I do what a good shade tree mechanic should do.......... I take all pain in the ass jobs to a good garage.
$252.82 dollars later the check engine light is off and I have a new O2 sensor on exhaust manifold near the radiator. The shop write up says they replaced Bank One Sensor One. This is the opposite side of the engine from what I thought. This is a very easy sensor to replace so did I out smart myself? My question is what side of a 1994 V6 engine is Bank One Sensor One. The front side nearest the radiator or the back side nearest the firewall? I asked my daughter to keep an eye on the check engine light.......we may be back to the shop. |

Re: Bank One Sensor One
According to the shop manual, available here.. http://oregonstate.edu/~tongt/camry .., it is the sensor nearest the firewall.
See page 436 in the EG2 section. |

Re: Bank One Sensor One
thats alot of money for putting in o/2 sensor...you should have went and got you the socket that takes them out it has a split in the socket so you don't break the wire...ohwell whats done is done..did you call parts stor and see what the o/2 sensor cost or did you buy it and and let them put it in?? if you never bought it i'd call and see what it cost. at autozone or advanced.....

Re: Bank One Sensor One
They replaced the wrong sensor. The CEL is off because they erased the code. It will come back on soon. Go back to the shop and bring a print out of the FSM sheet and ask to have it corrected.
B1S1 is always the one closest to the firewall. It's a pain to replace though. |

Re: Bank One Sensor One
mmh I think the B1S1 is the closest to cylinder 1, but I might be wrong

Re: Bank One Sensor One
Got home last night night and my daughter said the check engine light came back on. So we drove it over to the shop and placed a note along with the keys in the key drop box. Let the games being. Should be an interesting phone call.
If it had been the front O2 sensor I would have changed it myself. But the rear O2 sensor is a pain. Sensor removal isn't to bad but disconnecting it from the wiring harness is a bitch. I'll update this thread when I know more. Just recieved a phone call. They put in another O2 sensor at no charge. This time on the correct side. So I now have Bank 1 and Bank 2 upstream sensors replaced. Hopefully this will end the check engine light issue. Last edited by GSS123; 06-08-2007 at 12:02 PM. |
