Towing Q's

I was wondering what the towing capacity of a 2001 Ram 1500 5.2L auto is. I have found anything from 4500lbs to 7500lbs. Which is it? Also how can I tell if it came with the towing package or did they all come with that?

Thanks and sorry for the newb Q's

here you go

That shows you listed as 7200 pounds. But If you had a mnaul tranny in it you would need to check an owners manual (Or I could check mine) and it would be in the 5,000 range. Most likely the easiest way to check for the tow package is to check your gear ratio. You can check that in your glovebox or sometimes under your hood. If it lists 3.55 then you do not have the tow package. Also with the tow package came the tranny cooler with an auto tranny. So if you do not have that you do not have the tow package. If you have 4.10 ratio then you probably do have the package. Also check for a factory harness back on your hitch receiver. It will say chrysler on the cover of the 7 Pin connector.

Just as a comparison my truck, which is a regular cab 5.2L manual tranny 1500 SB, can only tow 5,000 max.
