thrown bearing
well...title says it all. It's not loud, but its definitely there and it sure sounds like a bearing to me.
so how long can i limp around on it? How fast will it deteriorate? if anyone recalls, my daily driver car shit the bed a few weeks ago so the 3k is my only vehicle. Also, i just had to pay the balance due on my honeymoon so my budget is minimal for the time being. i know bearings themselves arent terribly expensive...but for something this complicated and my level of skill/knowledge i just dont see it being possible in a weekend. Especially being that i would have no help. what are my options? sorry to be a downer...i have no one else to ask. |

Re: thrown bearing
DUDE!!! I am sorry bro that sucks!! If you lived closer I would help you fix it quick.. I would check your oil pressure... it might just be a sign of low pressure..

Re: thrown bearing
well, i can tell you a few things...
the car is running fantastic. it only makes the noise when its warm. it doesnt seem to make it at any rpm above ~1500 (maybe i just cant hear it over the engine...like i said, its quiet). before i killed my stock gauge last week, the oil pressure always read within the 2 big ticks. also, i change my oil religiously. i know i know, the stock gauge is worthless and i should get an AM...so, if i buy a gauge quick, how hard will it be to hook up? whats involved? im looking at the Prosport electric oil pressure gauge...60mm. Im not looking for a dash-tear-out install...just to hook it up real quick so i can get a reading. it says it includes the sender...does that go where the stock one is? what do i have to tear out to get at that? I might be able to get my hands on a manual OP gauge from my dad's shop...where do i take the reading from? |

Re: thrown bearing
Just snag your dads and plug it into where your sending unit is.. 12-45 psi.. This is at idle.. and 12 is the least it should be.. but that is low..
