A/C takes a break

Greetings, I'm a new member but long time Blazer owner and your boards have help solve many of my Blazer's problems. However I can't seem to find a refernce to this problem anywhere.

My 1998 4x4 Blazer LT with 130K miles has an unusual A/C problem. I will run the A/C while out driving and running errands the vehicle will be turned on and off several times or even if I am interstate driving the following problem will occur. If the vehicle is turned off for more than 30 minutes when I return to the car the A/C will not work until I drive for 5 minutes. If I push the A/C button the light flashes 3 times and stays off until the 5 minutes has expired. The car has the automatic climate control but no changes will make the a/c come on until that 5 minutes is up.

Any thoughts or ideas????

With auto controls you will need a AC/heater capable scanner to test or check it out and get codes.
Post back any code no.

But as always first make sure it is full of R134-a

Also you might try a battery neg cable disconnect.

I guess I should have given you a little more info. Scanner shows no codes, system is full of 134a as verified by gauges, I recently had the relay center under the hood replaced due to it's failure the a/c problem has existed before the relay center replacement and after and I have done several negative battery cable disconnects.

I finally took it to the GM dealer and they didn't charge me because I left them scatching their heads, they had never seen it and didn't know how to fix it. They told me I would have to live with it. It's not a huge problem but it is just one of those nagging problems that won't go away.

A factory trained tech with a good scanner should have been able to find something.
Next time you go to the dealer.
Tip on going to the dealer
Ask that only a factory certified AC/heater performance specialist work on your car.
Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory (the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

I would still try the neg. battery disconnect fix.
