Replacing the cooling fan motor

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of insight. I need to replace the motor on my cooling fan, and we've gotten the shroud & assembly out of the engine, but I can't get the two pieces of plastic that comprise the fan apart to get down to just the motor itself.
And, yes, I removed the clip that sits on the nub on the blade side of the assembly. But the whole blade piece just does NOT want to come off.
My husband will be bringing home a replacement motor for the fan.
Any suggestions besides breaking the plastic???

Re: Replacing the cooling fan motor

Welcome to the forum!

What year is your Taurus?

I'm not sure what you are referring to by two pieces of plastic that comprise the fan. Are you just needing to get the fan blade off of the motor shaft? Often times the blade will seize on to the motor shaft and you will need some penetrating oil, a hammer, a punch, someone to hold onto the blade, and quite a bit of patience. You need to be sure when hammering not to mushroom the end of the motor.

It's a '93; I call it my Old Grey Mare
Yes, removing the fan blades from the motor is what I needed to do, but now it's moot. The parts store gave him the wrong kind of motor, and apparently it is not sold without the rest of the assembly.
I appreciate your response. This board is a great place to help me learn how to take care of my baby.

Any info or recommendations to pass along to a "newbie"? I'm in the process of a flush & fill on my radiator, putting in some "Stop Leak" to help protect it.
