Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

I'm having this problem on the wife's car. It's an 02 impala with a 3.4L. I just put new pads on it. Wondering maybe if it is in need of an alignment or new rotors.

I know this isn't the impala forum but I get better response here plus this seems to me like it might be a universal problem. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

When you put the new pads on, did you have the rotors turned? Did you experience a similar problem before replacing the pads?

Sincerely,

Matt

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

No there wasn't a problem before new pads, just time for a new set. Seems like if there was something wrong with the brakes I'd feel some kind of vibration in the brake pedal, but it's all in the wheel.

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

Ok...now after driving the vehicle (instead of taking my wifes word for it) there is hardly any vibration in the wheel and mostly coming from the pedal. If I had to guess, I'd say the rotors could be warped or need replaced? Any one else got an idea?

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

Have them turned. Pep Boys will do it for like $6/rotor if you bring them in.

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

once I forgot to put the dust shield back on after removing the calipers, and it made vibration from the rotor being out of line. It was on a Oldsmobile.

Just a thought.

Re: Vibration in the steering wheel when braking..

When you re-align it,the same problems will bother you,why dont you settle for a new rotors? And I advise you that it would be good idea if you use good quality chevrolet pick up pedal covers on your pedals to reduce the vibrating effect while you drive.I hope it could help.
