Cool Pikes Peak Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 A. Vatanen 1987

Hi,

after finishing a project, I didn´t post yet, I started something new.

Base is the Tamiya Peugeot 205 kit with the Renaissance transkit.

Here some photos of what I did and what´s remarkable:

Rear spoiler was cut out and the hole closed

2 new holes in the roof

Resinparts, specially wings, are not so great (bubbles, not straight, twisted), here the rear upper wing

Frontline is not straight, rear end is twisted (not to be seen on the photo).

Connector between upper and lower rear wing

The little angle brackets have little holes to imitate screws. On the side parts of the frontwing these are on the wrong side, they cannot be seen later.
This is what you see later:

and here you glue

This is how the frontwing will sit later.

Interior with additional cage part:

Engine is a big problem. Some resinparts come in the transkit, however no details how to fix them.
Further the engine compartement of the PP looks a little bit different. Base for the Pikes Peak was the Evo-model, here the area between the inner fenders is different compared to the Tamiya kit.

Some time ago, Phil and LinolPedro sent me some photos, but as I work on the kit once again:

Anybody who has photos of the interior and engine bay ???

BTW, the interior photo on the Renaissance building instruction is wrong, it is from an Evo Rally car.

Re: Pikes Peak Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 A. Vatanen 1987

Hi there,
Never posted here before (I'm not a modeller myself but I just love watching these builds opcorn
Very nice job you're doing here! I love these Group B cars...
One remark though, those brackets for holding the front spoiler to the car, shouldn't they be bent the other way, so bent inside instead of outside like you did? It looks odd like you did it, seeing the pic in which you hold the spoiler to the bumper... That would also explain why the holes are on the wrong side now
I hope you'll make something good out of this one 'cause you don't see it that often!

Cheers!

Oh yes, I see it on the pics too... Maybe you can drill the holes through, and then when the spoiler is painted and put into place, paint the area under the holes...

Re: Pikes Peak Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 A. Vatanen 1987

Hi,

body is painted and decals are on

Further I must now say something about the transkit::

price is 64 Euro !!!!

you get decals and etched parts, more or less ok.

Resinparts need lots of work and some are useless: Those parts for the area around the engine are nice, but the inner fenders are wrong for this kit. The base for the Pikes Peak was the Evo2, look here, Ken did the inner fenders in the right way: http://homepage2.nifty.com/KEN-RALLY...05t16ev2-1.htm.

Photos of the intruction are from the wrong car, the PP had no dash, the right rear side window was closed, just to mention a few ....

Material you get costs under 30 Euro and building the car according to the instruction makes you build a phantomracer.

Re: Pikes Peak Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 A. Vatanen 1987

Hi Micha,

very nice start on this model.

The problems you mentioned aren't particular to the PPHC version, all Evo2 versions have to get new engine area, inner fenders etc etc because the Tamiya model is a Evo1.

We all know that (I guess...) but Renaissance TK isn't complete as we could think it is, that's the real problem...
I was surely one of the first to say that to him and his usuall response felt quickly: "I can't release a complete TK it would be to expensive and nobody would buy it..."
But what he doesn't want to understand on my opinion is that there are a few modelers able to pay more for an extra TK to the base TK for example who will be very disapointed with such incomplete TK...
I'm sure Renaissance could produced several range of TK level, everyone would find his cup of tea.

I already have a Evo2 to TK and it's probably my bigest project (I intend to build it full opened), that's why I didn't want to add a PPHC version knowing I won't be able to build it enough accurate...

Micha, did you get some pics from Steve that I haven't in what I sent ?
I would be very interested in seeing that, I think there is some things I didn't notice as you did (no dash...?? )

We have to pay attention to the fact there was 3 cars and some of test run and others of race run...

for the rest, keep going on straight to a new masterpiece !

Re: Pikes Peak Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 A. Vatanen 1987

Hi guys,

thanks for the reply

@ Phil: yes, the Evo needs other inner fenders in the rear, I also have the Renaissance Evo kit, maybe somewhen ...

I agree with you: A good (trans-) kit of a model will be bought by serious modellers, but - the manufacturer wonīt make 300 but only 100 (trans-) kits and has more work to do.

The photos I have came from you, the internet and another guy???

Well, concerning the engine compartment I decided to built the car after a run, with some dust on the body.
