Caliper mounting bolts don't go all the way back in?

I replaced the pads and rotors today on my '99 2.2. When I removed the caliper mounting bolts, they were recessed or flush with the caliper body, and unscrweed easily. When I was finished and screwed them back in, they tighten correctly but are still about a quarter inch out from being flush again. This was consistent on all four bolts on both calipers. The whole arrangement seems tight and firm, and a test drive seemed just fine.

Is this a concern and why shouldn't they return to the same position as they started? I commute 100 miles per day in my Cavalier and don't want to be stranded somewhere if this is an issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

Stephen

Get yourself a rubber mallet and pound on that caliper a few times. Those bolts need to be back where they were or you're going to be in trouble.
