bogged down and sluggish like a wet sponge
hey guys.
We'll after 200,000 non A/C miles, I have retired my C1500 and I am using it as my second vehicle. I will now have some time to rebuild it. Question. I have noticed a serious lack of power in the chevy and was thinking it may be the Catalytic Converter being jammed up. I don't have the money right now to replace it, but can i drill a small hole in it to let some pressure out and hopefully get some smoother idle and power back? If so, where would I drill the hole and how big.

if you're 'rebuilding' it and making a hotrod, take that shit off.

no i am not making it a rod, going factory stock...plus it's still mandatory to have the cat.

Re: bogged down and sluggish like a wet sponge
ah, stock should be nice, too.
i'd just get it replaced if that's what you're going for. good luck! oh, and about it being needed. drilling a hole in it accomplishes the same thing as removing it, except that you'll have a nasty exhaust hole to listen to all the time. you'll certainly not pass emissions testing with it in there. you'll basically be creating more problems than you're solving with that hole. yes, cats are 'required', but an exhaust with no holes is also 'required'. so i guess it's drill that hole or get a piece of pipe made to fit where your cat used to be, and save for a new one.

Re: bogged down and sluggish like a wet sponge
Take the exhaust pipe lose for a test drive to make sure it is the cat.
If it is a bad cat your local muffler shop or parts place can fix you up with a new one. You did not tell us what year but on the older ones the pellets could be drained out for a test and refilled as needed. MT
