no running lights on trailer
I have turn and signal lights but no running lights on my trailer. I have a testing adapter and it showed no running lights. The running lights on my 02 explorer work just fine. Any ideas????

It appears that the 2002 Explorer trailer wiring adapater does not include running lights, just turn/brake, and backup lamps.
Pin 1 (Yellow wire) = Turn lamps, feed, left rear Pin 2 (White wire) = Trailer tow connector, ground Pin 3 (Dark blue) = Electric trailer brakes Pin 4 (Dard green) = Turn lamps, feed, right rear Pin 5 (Orange) = Voltage in Run (overload protected) Pin 6 (Brown/white) = Trailer tow relay, switched output Pin 7 (Black/light green) = Trailer tow connector, Reversing lamps -Rod

The information I posted is from the factory service manual. I suspect the factory is more correct than the dealer.
However, if you want to verify it, get our your multimeter or test light and probe the connector. -Rod

Check fuse 27 in the underhood fuse panel. There is a trailer parking lamp relay installed in the module. This fuse feeds the relay.

Daytime running lights are only your headlights, not your park lights. So since a trailer only uses markers and brakes, that would be why you don't have a connection for daytime running. I'm guessing the dealership thought you meant your park lights when they said you should have a connection for daytime running.

Way2old's diagram matches the wiring diagram in my service manual. From the diagram, it would appear the, assuming you have the class III/IV connector, pin 6 should be the parking/trailer running lights. If you have the Class II connector, the parking/trailer running lights would be pin 2.
I overlooked the wiring diagram and went straight to the connector pinout. Denisb's does post did get me thinking about another question though, you are checking your parking/trailer running lights with the vehicle parking or headlights on, right? -Rod Last edited by shorod; 06-08-2007 at 07:38 AM.
