very hard steering

Okay I replaced the bushing with very good used ones for now(going to try and have recall done soon) When my SUB-frame bushing went the back of subframe was like 4in fron the ground steering was very hard. Now that bushings are done steering isn't working still. When car is off And in the air I can turn wheels pretty easy feels like it not a hundred % still but they turn As soon as car is started wheels are hard to turn. sometimes if I turn to the left all the way and then straighten the wheel out the wheels will spin all the way to left again (sometimes) but while car is strarted and fluid is flowing I have to tug on the steering wheel to turn it. If I am tugging to turn the wheel and shut the car off at the same time it will get very easy to turn...as soon as the engine stops.....Pump seems to be working I am getting my whirlpool in the res. ANY IDEAS???Please

Make sure that the connector for the Variable Assist Power Steering (VAPS) is connected. Without that connected, your power assist may not actually assist. Seems like what you are experiencing.

I'm pretty sure that my '93 SHO had VAPS. I know my '98 SHO did....

Yep, just checked the service manual, your '93 should be equipped with VAPS. According to the service manual, the connector is a 4 terminal connector with a gray housing located lower LH rear of engine compartment, to variable assist stepper motor. That would be the easy one to knock loose or forget to reconnect.

You'll also want to check at the VAPS module which is located behind LH side of I/P, RH side of steering column. This connector will be a 14-terminal connector with only 12 terminals populated.

Thanks shorod. I am going to go right now to my brothers thats were I was closest to when the bushing went. So I left my car there becouse I did want to drive it. But ill let you know how I make out. If it is just that It would be so great.....thanks again

okay i got old unit out. What happen was when SFB gave out it dropped and craked the rack and pinion cast right where the input part meets the main rack. It cracked all the way around. Tring to get the hoses off sucked becouse the input part moves like all the way around. That would explain the hard steering lol..Any hoo put a used one in(rack) but the left tie rod end doesn't fit for some reason. it goes in the whole in the knuckle but won't go all the way down. Like top of the threaded piece is to fat. I put the nut on tring to pull it threw but won't go. I measured it out side the knucle and even if I got it to sit flush when I put the bolt on and If I tighten all the way it would still be like a 1/4 well maybe a little less then A 1/4 In from the threaded part to the bottom of the whole it goes threw??Hmmm wierd it came of a 94 sho but the right side fits in fine?????? Just get A new one i guss(tie-rod end) I do have another question though. Ill start another tread.....
