Talking When the AC clutch engages, hear and feel a shudder for a second or two?

On my 95 PA I can hear/feel a groan or shudder when the AC is first turned on, just for a second or two.

For instance, when I start the car up in the morning to let the engine warm up before driving it, after the engine starts when I turn the AC on you can hear/feel a groan or shudder when the AC clutch engages.

Then if you turn the AC off and turn it back on the groan/shudder does not happen the next time the clutch engages, just when the car has been sitting for several hours...

The AC system works fine but I would like to try and diagnose/repair this if possible before it develops into a real problem.

Thanks for any tips or help.

Bert

My guess would be lack of internal lubrication in the compressor.

Perhaps it could be that your belt tensioner is weak and the added belt load is causing it to slip.

Good Luck

Belt tnesion, low charge, bad clutch bearing, sluggish idle air control are a few for ya.
