Oz Photo Guide to 3.2V6 SOHC Timing Belt/Water Pump Replacement
G'day from a new member from Down Under.
I have been following this forum for a while and thought it was time to contribute. Recently I replaced my t-belt for the second time in 10 years and this time I photographed and wrote-up the procedure. Although this was done on my R.H.D. Ozzie Isuzu I hope that it may be generally applicable to those of you driving upside-down and on the wrong side of the road ![]() Anyway, here is the link to the PDF article: http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?showtopic=7463 Regards, Boritz. |

Re: Oz Photo Guide to 3.2V6 SOHC Timing Belt/Water Pump Replacement
Very well done and thorough. I would mention that the factory recommends that when changing the water pump, some loctite 242 or equivalent be used on one of the bolts. I have a DOHC but the procedure parallels the SOHC except for the timing marks on the cam gears. It is obvious you spent a lot of time on documenting this. Your work belongs in the FAQ of every Isuzu
site. One owners opinion.

Thanks for your kind response atfdmike.
Interesting about the water-pump bolt sealer - my Isuzu UBS SOHC 3.2 workshop manual doesn't mention it. Let's face it - it wouldn't hurt to put sealer on all of the bolts! |

Re: Oz Photo Guide to 3.2V6 SOHC Timing Belt/Water Pump Replacement
The information about the thread sealant mentioned above is the result of a technical service bulletin that was issued after the service manuals were published. I don't know if any manuals were ever published with the change.
I think if you choose to use a thread sealant on all the bolts, you may want to consider one of the removable grade thread sealants. I think the loctite 242 is a medium strength sealant, so it may be a bit tough to remove the next time it is needed. One guys opinion.

Thanks atfdmike.
I have added references to this in the PDF journal just to be safe. Interestingly, you can clearly see the no.3 water-pump bolt hole in pic 40 of the journal and it appears to be completely dry and oil-free. Perhaps this hole only enters the oil-way in the DOHC engine? |
