Does anyone know about this recall or issues with fuel system corrosion problems?

There are several reports of leaking fuel tank...and this includes mine. At this time it leaks if filled more than half.
IN Canada they will only inspect the fuel pump/sender assembly: I've shown them the US recall that covers the whole fuel tank assembly and say they had none of the same for Canada....so I'm about to take my own look at this...

LMP, thank you for your reply; you are a dedicated poster to this forum. It is most interesting that automobile safety is only as effective as a nation's political clout. I would pursue this safety issue directly with KIA.

Re: Fuel tank/sender Corrosion

so is this an actual recall or is it just a bulletin? Mine is corroded and now leaking and i would love to have Kia fix it for free.

Thanks,

Clayton

It is a service bulletin for the 1996-2002, thanks to LMP for the info. If an owner kept up to date with KIA, the owner would have been notified if the respective car was suspect and to have it inspected. This issue is apparently becoming a none issue just because of the time that has passed, however the 2005 does have a recall for this problem. Depending what year your Sportage is, you may luck out.

Re: Fuel tank/sender Corrosion

Just an update. I went to Kia and they told me that my VIN was out of range of the recall. I could come back when the District guy was there and see what they could do about it. That will be next wednesday I hope.
Thanks,

Clayton
