Just got a -94 Caprice
Hello everyone,
yesterday I bought a -94 Caprice with LT-1 engine + "police package". It's driven app. 180k miles and driving nice. It has been a cop car in Florida, so have to see how it handles the Finnish winter luckily have 5-6 months to prepare it for that.Quick question for one small problem; where might be the problem, when I turn the engine off, the trip odometer reading drops a bit! Not to 0 but e.g. yesterday it had 26 miles on it, turned engine off and started again, it showed 14 miles. Otherwise very cool car

Re: Just got a -94 Caprice
It looks like you have the magic car the everyone dreams of having that never gets old, and never becomes a high mileage vehicle.
But seriously now... you obviously have the digital odometer. I can't see a mechanical odometer ever doing that unless driven backwards for a while. If I remember correctly the odometer's memory is stored in the guage cluster itself as opposed to the ECM in OBD1 equipped cars (yours). It sounds as if it's having trouble storing the miles it's gained. It could be an internal circutry issue, possibly a blown capacitor, or worn out logic gates in one of the silicon chips. In the circutry itself you may also have a broken connection so when shutting off the vehicle and turning it back on is causing a "misfire" in the digital logic gates which can set off the counter. Another possibility of the display may be malfunctioning in the way that the connections aren't good anymore to some of the LEDs in each of the 7-segment displays that make up the odometer may lose power and create a different display. This is all somewhat familiar to me because I took a few digital electronics classes in high school and college.
