2000 Alternator Swap

Mine just died. It seems to be a pretty easy and straight forward replacement. Anything I should look out for?

Always take the battery cables off first so you don't short out anything

Died as in "cooked"? Or it just don't put out anymore? Reason I'm bringing this up is some other things could've caused your alternator to die - besides old age of course. Get a good reliable model. Remanufactured is OK. Since most modern autos and trucks have no ammeter ( I installed an ammeter in mine), it will be hard to tell how the new alternator will be functioning after the install. You may watch your voltmeter for excessive voltage, and/or periodically feel the battery for overheating, a symptom of overcharging. Most of the time new alternators work OK.

Thanks folks. My daughter and granddaughter broke down on a dark highway. No warning. We tried to drive it home after jumping but it would only run for a few minutes and died. We just parked it and I put a reman in today. Real easy to do, no unexpected problems. Next planned project is new plugs and wires!
