Red face Water Pump Gasket

I am going to be attempting to replace the water pump in my daughters '94 Regal 3.8L. It doesn't look like it will be too hard to do, but I am not much of a mechanic. Does the new gasket need to have Permamtex sealant? If so, does it go on both sides of the gasket or only one side?
Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions that will make this project easier for me.

Re: Water Pump Gasket

The gasket shouldn't require any sealant if it is new. Just make sure to remove all the old gasket material from the mounting surfaces.

Re: Water Pump Gasket

Its always good to put a little sealer on both sides of the gasket. I did it and havent had any probs or leaks in years. Its actually a easy job -remove coolant overflow out of the way- drain some antifreeze if applicable- with proper socket wrench, untension pulley off water pump- scrape of old gasket after unbolting pump........good luck
