How do I bleed the cooling system?
I have a 2002 with a 2.2 4cyl. I just put the engine in. The car seems like it has an air bubble in the cooling system. It will keep getting hotter, but if you feel the heat blowing from the heater, it will seem hot, then cool, then hot, then cool , then hot again. If it was the thermostat I would not have any hot heat at all correct? The engine I put in the car only has 17000 miles on it, but Im not sure how long it sat. I hope it is not the thermostat because it seem like it would be a bear to change on the 2.2. How can I determine if there is an air bubble? I can't find any Bleeders anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Paul |

Re: How do I beed the cooling system?
if you can not find that bleeder valve, turn the heat on, remove coolant reservoir cap, let your car idle until fan turns on and off, put the cap back on all the air shoud be out.

Re: How do I beed the cooling system?
I dont think you can "beed" the cooling system
![]() Turn the heater on full heat when bleeding the cooling system or air will get trapped in the heater core. I Dont think you have a bleeder valve on the 2.4, but taking the reservoir cap off should help clear the air. Elevating the front or reservoir side will help the air rise to the highest point even better.. Hope that helps.

Re: How do I beed the cooling system?
Remove the pressure cap. Make sure the fan is off, doesn't matter how the heat knob is set. Leaving the fan all the way on insures the thermostat will never open at idle (trust me I found this out the hard way). Let the car idle until the fan cycles on and off at least twice. Should take anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes for this to happen. Good luck.
