Air conditioner evaporator not draining

I have a 1998 Firebird 3.8 and I am constantly getting water inside the passanger side floor area. I looked around on the internet and alot of forums are stating that the air conditioner evaporator is not draining. I would like to know if someone could help me identify where to locate the drain on the evaporator? Also interested in any other idea's why water would be coming into the floor area of passenger side.

Re: Air conditioner evaporator not draining

Evaporator drain is on the passenger side firewall, should be easier to reach from underneath the car. Other possibilities are leaking window gaskets, leaking windshield, rust, evaporator pan cracked, the list goes on. If you don't run the a/c, does the floor still get wet? And if so, what are the weather conditions when it happens?

Red face Re: Air conditioner evaporator not draining

skibum1111 - you were exactly right. I could not see anything from looking in at the engine compartment from above. I used a friend's garage, lifted the car and found a small hole about the size of a pencil at the bottom of the evaporator holding tank that looked rusted. I ran my finger across the hole and it was wet feeling. I then inserted a small pick into the hole and about 2 quarts of cold water came rushing out. We then blew air from a compressor into the whole and cleaned as much out as we could.

The main problem I was having was I had been looking for some kind of drain tube or drain hose. There was no tube or hose just a hole the size of a pencil. I believe that the drain hole was clogged with some kind of slim gummy sludge and would not allow water to exit the evaporator tank. Any new condensation that was collected would enter into the inside of the car under the center of the dash mostly on the passenger side floor area.

My only other concern is was there supposed to be a drain hose or tube and it had been broken off or did water just exit through the drain hole but the drain was clogged by the slimmey sludge?

Thanks for the quick response. Now it's time to remove the seats and dry out the carpet and padding.

Re: Air conditioner evaporator not draining

I do believe there is supposed to be a hose, should come out and angle down.
