trade it in for a civic????
you could see what www.rksport.com has for ya, and i know that gm has an s/c but that's for the newer ones... i've seen them with turbos and what not, and sport compact car had a j-body special issue back last october ish... so you could check that out... it had a pretty good buyers guide for parts... |

Tell him to find a Turbo Sunbird, they did make them. If you jump on it in the next 2 days, you can get this wrecked one on Ebay for $300... shipping would be another story though, it all depends on where you are.

oh man cavvies
back in the day....... umm well i wouldnt trade it in for a civic, bleh. here ask these people: www.cavalierperformance.com handling was never really all that bad, especially on dirt roads, but i may be delusioned now that i have a rwd . Acceleration was a different story. Anyway if i were him i wouldnt get too serious about modding the cav, just a dab here and there, i mean honestly itll be pretty hard to make it able to compete with whats out there today.

Well, the only cheap solution to power in a Cavalier is the turbo pontiac 2.2... that parts cars is $300, and the drivetrain and suspension will bolt into the cavalier...

my friend has a 2000 Cavlier z24 and his done i/h/e, racing chip, short shifter, and and i think a msd iginition wires. He's spent about 1300 for all of this and i still beat him. i would sell it and buy a turbo car like a 1st generation eclipse, talon, or lasor. i know their reliabilty sux but you can spend like 300 and they would run in the low 13's, not like a honda which it cost like a bizzilion dollars tomake it run in the 14's

Yes, you could concieveably swap in a V6, even a Buick 3800 V6... if you put in a Buick 3800 SC and did a turbo conversion, you could make some good power. There are good aftermarket engine parts, including forged cranks, pistons and rods, all sorts of crazy stuff...
I would say the Sunbird would be the easiest solution... $300, and potential for 200hp just by upping the boost.

If you are referring to the Berretta Z26, it had the 3.1 liter V6 you are speaking of. My suggestion though is swapping the same motor that was in my 1991 Berretta GTZ. It was called the QUAD4, and was rated at 180HP STOCK(it was closer to 190), while the most ANY of the V6's placed in the Berrettas had was 160HP...including the one placed in the GTZ's replacement, the Z26. The Z24's actually had the same family motor but with an added balance rod to smooth-out the engine...which made it lose up to 40HP. Theoretically, with this rod disabled, you get the HP back. Although I AM a Honda fan, the QUAD4 was comparable to the H22 VTEC Honda mill with 195HP(2.2 VS 2.4 liters)...AND it didn't have VTEC! PLUS, it was made by Chevy/GM of all things...if only they stuck with it...and placed it in a Fiero...imagine a CR-X with a Prelude engine...now imagine the same car with a mid-engine and RWD...[drool].

i've been promoting the Fiero since day one!!!
I love that little car! As i say, it was GM's answer to the CRX before there was a CRX (at least in america). I personally think Pontiac was on a role with Fiero, look at the 87-88 GTs. Beautiful cars! But Fiero was cancelled... unfortunately.
