Engine Swap
Alright my friend is giving up his 89 z24 2.8l and i have a 2000 2.2(2200) i wanted to take his engine and tranny out of his and out into mine after a rebuild of both.I would just keep his car but ive done some body work to mine and would rather have it than his so i wanted to swap the engine n stuff but im not sure if it would fit correctly does ne actually know?

That would be completely senseless.

The horsepower you're going to get out of that 2.8, would, realistically, not be that much different from what you have. Granted, it came from the factory is more (not much, but a bit) horses, time takes its toll. Beyond that, a smarter swap would be...well...anything else out of the 60 degree v6 family. Think 3100 or 3400, and I'd not reccomend a 3.1. I loved that motor in my old Z24, but the power you can get out of a new motor makes such a swap (the 2.8 swap) just...errr...well...senseless. Then there's gas mileage. That puppy sucks for gas mileage. But, with all that said. Sure, it'll fit. I mean, some people cram in a 3800, which is a 90 degree v6, so a 2.8 will sure fit. You'd even be able to swap parts out of the 89, thanks to GM using the same damn platform forever. Expect to replace many parts. And, finally, you can't pass emissions, if you have them. You'd have to convert the car to OBDI or figure out how to make the 2.8 work on OBDII. Good luck with that one...
