Unhappy I would like to replace a v6 3.4 liter with a v6 3.8 liter in my 95 camaro.

"And the fourth-gen vehicles: The RS was special for 1996/97 and is a better performer because it includes the 3800 Series II V6, whereas the normal Camaro previously had the 3.4L 60-degree V6. It also had a more aggressive look with factory ground effects and special wheels."

I would like to get my regular 5 speed 95 camaro updated to more of an RS like performance. It has a normal 3.4 liter v6 and I would like to have a mechanic take it out and put in a 3.8 liter v6. How much would this cost and would I need to replace things like rear suspension or transmission.

You would need:

engine
transmission
k-member and motor mounts
wiring harness
PCM

and a bunch of labor hours.

if you're going though all of the work you might as well put an lt1 or ls1 in it...

V8, if your going to go to that trouble. I read on some site about a 3.4 that used internal parts and the intake from a 3400 grand am. The guy said it made more power, dunno. It would be a lot of work, but still less than a full on swap. I thought about doing it to mine when I decide to go into the motor.

hell build it..forge it then spray it...be done! cheap easy and u get power! stays a 6banger for gas, but when u wanna get u sum, its just a flick of a switch away! system armed, spray'er, get u about 10 seconds of fun, then go back to cruising! thats just my 2 cents..but if u wanna get more power, for all that work for another 20 hp.....go for the ls1 swap. the lt1 swap is a damn wast too...go balls. hell i wish i still had my ls1 i built, i would have droped that sumbitch right in the f1.....480hp b4 spraying the 250 shit....damn that would have been sweet.....

Yeah, even though I'm probably just about the biggest V6 f-body supporter on this entire site, I'd have to say it's the same amount of work to go from a 3.4 to a 3.8 as it would be for a lt1/ls1 swap (except then you have to do diff. shocks/springs in the front... no big deal though). Unless you've got the money to spare and want to build up a 3.8 for fun, I'd probably be looking into doing the v8 instead. Just don't tell your insurance company :P

Re: I would like to replace a v6 3.4 liter with a v6 3.8 liter in my 95 camaro.

Maybe we should start a new opinion thread:

Which is faster: A V8 F-body with a normal sized dirver, or a V6 with a elf driver?

Sorry Kasey, it was just screaming to get out there. No doubt the the 3.8 V6 can hang with some work.

Hehe. Just wait till I get the stuff that's in my garage into my car.... give me a month of so cuz once it's in, I have the HPTuners learning to do. Nothing crazy but should be pretty decent.
