ETC OFF and ABS Lights

1997 Grand Am SE
100,800 Miles

I'm looking to purchase this 97 Grand Am, and during the test drive I noticed the ETC OFF and ABS lights on. Then I did a little research and found out that the ETC OFF light may come on for no apperant reason. How can I find out if something is really wrong with these systems or if its a defect in these cars that is causing these lights to display?

Re: ETC OFF and ABS Lights

etc off is your traction control which could be turned on and off at the handle of PRNDL shifter. ABS could be on for several reasons: one of the speed sensors are bad, one of the tires is very low on air or very low brake oil. The last two are very rear.

The only way to know for sure is with an ABS capable scan tool.
