Pontiac Montana won't start-hissing sound from ignition key
2001 Pontiac Montana wouldn't start and when removing key from ignition I heard a hissing sound. Had van jump started, ran engine for 30 min. to recharge battery. Turned off engine, tried to restart and everything is dead again. Same hissing sound from ignition switch, gauges blink rapidly and speedometer pointer shakes. Any leads at to problem accepted.

Re: Pontiac Montana won't start-hissing sound from ignition key
I just developed this problem as well. It also causes all the gauges to pull to the negative side. And the hissing pulsates. I've checked my battery voltage and it is at 12.87 volts. I took out the battery and cleaned the terminals and reinstalled it. Still the same results.

Re: Pontiac Montana won't start-hissing sound from ignition key
I've had this happen on my 2000 Montana. It turned out to be the aftermartket terminal end of the negative cable that someone had put on. I replaced the negative cable with a new one from GM, seems to be the only place they can be gotten, and that took care of the problem.
