Talking New Here & Need a lil help

Hey guys,
just signed up looking for some help with my 96 3000gt I bought a few months ago.
I have a few things I have questions about.
1) My power/econo switch doesnt work, was wondering if anyone knew what may be causing this.

2)ABS light stays on. Any way to find out why?

3) Something is coming out of my exhaust. Its not smoking, but leaving a residue on my rear bumper and spoiler, pretty weird, kinda oily, could it be oil? if it is would prolly be a big problem huh?

your help is much appreciated Thanx =]

Thanks,
The stuff on the spoiler is just like whats on the bumper, some kind of oily residue, thats why I was curious if maybe it could be oil, if thats possible...and no its not a VR-4 just an SL. I tried searching the FAQ but havent been able to find anything through the search. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong lol.

Its decent. I had it checked during my last oil change and he adjusted the ratio because he said I was losing about 20% of my gas out the tail pipe and he says I should be able to run regular gas now but to run premium about every 5th tank. I put premium in it this last fill up, maybe that could be an issue also i suppose.I dont know, lol I really dont know that much about car mechanics except how to change my oil and spark plugs, brakes and tires.
Also, any ideas yet on the ABS or Power/Econo switch? I cant seem to use the FAQ. Not sure why....

yea i know and it says it on the console too. but like i said, the mechanic told me he adjusted the ratio because he said i was burning too pure and losing gas out my tail pipes. he also said that i would be able to run regular now...when he adjusted it he said it the ratio was off as if someone had it tuned to be racing.idk. like i said before, im not very mechanically inclined when it comes to this stuff.

Re: New Here

Your mechanic is an idiot. Do not run regular its going to cause you not only lose gas mileage but run like shit. Id sure like to know how he adjusted your af ratio without a AFC. If you are running rich then you probly need new o2 sensors.

As for the power/eco switch are you sure its not working? Theres little difference between the two settings. On power it will wait a little longer to shift on full throttle application than in economy. My old Eclipse I had I always kept it on power because I saw zero difference in fuel economy between the two. Mainly because if you are driving at a normal rate the tranny is going to shift at a lower rpm anyway.

ABS can be many things. Someone may have pulled the ABS fuse, you could have a faulty sensor, or it could be a few other things. If it were me I'd pull the damn ABS light out and be done with it. ABS on these cars is junk.

Thanks! good to know. As far as the power/eco switch, isnt there a light in the console thats supposed to turn on when you hit the switch? I thought i could see the outline of where the light is. If so it never turns on or off when I hit the switch.Unlike the OD on/off light that comes on. Also, i dont notice any difference at all with it flipped to eco or power. As far as the ABS, if the ABS is shit i just wont worry about it then, probably not worth the hassle. I'll get a second opinion about the stuff comin out my tail pipe and get the o2 sensor checked (if possible). Im getting about 21 mpg right now so im not too worried about gas mileage but more, what the hell is coming out my exhaust. Thanks a bunch for your help.

Re: New Here

21 mpg aint bad at all. Youre mechanic is still an idiot and you need to run at least 91, no lower. People think its saving money but fact of the matter is its killing power and causing you to spend more money because you are getting worse mileage than you would on 91. Good luck and welcome to AF.
