rear speaker removal

Just purchase a 98 SE Grand Prix for my 16 yr old. Looking to replace the stereo, but I can not figure how to remove the deck cover to access the speakers. Any help

remove the lower seat cushion by pulling the release tabs located on each side of the center floor hump in the seam between the carpet and seat.

Remove the 2 bolts for the center seat belt anchors and the 2 outer bolts holding the seat back in. Lift the seatback up to disengage the clips at the top.

You'll see some plastic push-pin anchors that hold the carpeted shelf that covers the speakers in place. carefully pry them out with a screwdriver (or door panel tool if you have one).and the shelf will slide out. The speakers bolt in from the top with 4 screws each.

Figures.... I saw the back of the seat hangers(clips) from inside the trunk and the push retainers for the cover. I was hoping that the cover would lift off without removing the back of the seat.

Any sugguestions/hints on installing an after market stereo? I'm concerned with connecting to the stock harness and the cover plate.

You can buy a harness and the mounting kit for an aftermarket radio at just about any retailer. They're relatively cheap, and easy to install. The wiring kit allows you to hook the new radio into the existing car harness with out cutting/spicing the car's wiring.
