Question about replacing a transmission

I just picked up my 2000 Accord with a brand new transmission (luckily it was still under warranty thanks to a class action suit regarding these trannys) from my Honda dealership this morning.

Before I took the car in, it needed an alignment. Maybe it's just because the I've been driving a beater Buick for the past week, but the Accord's steering seems tighter and it doesn't seem to be pulling to the passenger side like it did before (then again, it's less than a mile from the dealership to my office, so I just may not have noticed it).

I know nothing about what's involved with replacing a transmission. Would the removal of the old tranny have required them to do something with the steering, which would require them to essentially give a free alignment after the new one was installed? The invoice stated nothing other than the transmission, labor and fluid.

Re: Question about replacing a transmission

The Accord is FWD, right? If so, they had to disconnect the CV joints from the tranny, which may have caused them to mess up your allignment, depending on what else is in the way.

I'd take it on a long, flat stretch of road before deciding.

Re: Question about replacing a transmission

assuming they R&R'd the tranny in the proper manner, there should be no effect on the alignment

CV axles have no effect on alignment....unless they come apart anyway

Re: Question about replacing a transmission

Well it depends on what side of the road you drive on. If you're on the left lane, it usually tilts to the left. So your car will feel like it's going straight if it usually pulls right. Sometimes, it's not even the alignment that causes the car to pull one way or another. If your breaks were dragging, it would do the same thing. Sometimes, you just wake up and the car feels different all together. Cars are like women, they're erratic and unpredictable. They're moody from day to day...
