What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

The lightest so far that I have come across is Motegi Traklite 2.0 which weighs 10.5 Lbs.

Question is does anyone know of a wheel that is lighter than that?

Volk Gram Lites weigh about the same. Rota Slipstream/Spoon wheels weigh about 11-12lbs. depending on which ones you get.

The Motegi Tracklites look like knock-off Spoon/Rota wheels.

According to wheelweights.net, Porsche 916 wheels are 7lbs.

might be a little hard to get hold of a set of those though. i think they're centre locking nut wheels anyway.

doesn't the CCX have carbon-fibre wheels?

Re: What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

Looks like the closest to the Porsche wheels are the Volk CE28N Wheels at 15 inches they weigh 7.72 Lbs. Imagine the rotational mass savings in acceleration and MPG!

15 x 5.5 +35, 45 4 100 ~7.72 $460.00

Re: What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

This is probably as light as it gets at 7.8 Lbs. Shown here is the 19" version but it makes it easy to imagine a 15" version.

Yeah but the ride quality probably sucks.

Re: What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

why?
a light wheel will give you less unsprung weight and make the suspension MORE accurate and give you a BETTER responding ride.
unless your suspension is crap to begin with, but i doubt that is the case for someone who is looking for the lightest possible 15" wheel

Re: What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

Lighter wheels are impacted more by road irregularities which sends more shock through the suspension and into the cabin. Heavy wheels dont transmit as much energy to the suspension because they dont move as much when impacted.

Re: What is the World's Lightest 15" Wheel?

but if your suspension is at all decent, you want to transmit as much as possible to the suspension.
why else do you think there is a whole industry devoted to producing light weight wheels

That's exactly what suspension is for, absorbing shock between the wheels and the chassis.

Less unsprung weight means your wheels can react faster to each bump, allowing the suspension to do a much better job, especially over sharp or high frequency bumps.

A lot of unsprung mass (i.e. heavy wheels) brings the problem of overshoot, where the momentum of a heavy wheel going up, is enough to make it lose contact with the ground at the top of the bump.
To get around this needs higher spring and damper rates, which takes it's toll on ride quality.
