Computer Problems?

I have another post about my on going 97 3.8 Thunderbirds woes. My question for this thread is this. Can I put a different numbered computer from the same year t bird? If I do, what might I expect? Any one tried this.I live in Ohio and the computer (so I have been told) is set up for Calif. emmissions. The number is F6SF-12A650-BF. I have found a couple of good used computers from local yards, but the last two letter are off. They are both off of a 97 3.8 birds.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Computer Problems?

You might run into check engine light problems with California emissions ecms, due to Ford’s tendency to use different sensors on those models. Did you check Ebay at all?

Re: Computer Problems?

nothing on ebay. I did find a different numbered computer locally (for $35) out of a 97 Cougar. I tried it, with no difference in my cars problems. I am thinking now it was not my cars computer. I am going to try something tomorrow, I'll post my results.

Unhappy Re: Computer Problems?

The stickers are Calif. emmissions. Well the sad news is nothing I've tried has worked. I am done trying to fix this engine & I can not afford to rebuild/replace it at this time. Thanks to all who have tried to help. I'll be putting by T Bird up for sale. thanks again all.

Re: Computer Problems?

Problem solved, the harmonic balancer was broke which caused it to jump time. Thanks every one!
