Screeching Problems 95 Grand Am
I own a 1995 Grand Am V6 3.1L, 163,00 miles on it. I notice that sometimes it makes a loud screeching sound, like a metal rubbing on metal sound in the Spring and Fall time. When I turn the A/C on the sound usually goes away. Does anyone know what this could be?

Re: Screeching Problems 95 Grand Am
My guess would say the AC clutch is going out.
If the compressor is in the same place as a 94,Its on the passenger side bottom of the engine - take a flashlight and look down there and see if you can see any metal shavings there. you could also get someone to turn the ac on/off while you watch the clutch to see if that is making the noise.

Re: Screeching Problems 95 Grand Am
Also sometime sand and road debrie get into the compressor clutch and when it engauges it'll make a scratchy grinding sound.
Though as Grand94AMGT said it could also mean the AC comp is goin south.
