Screeching Problems 95 Grand Am

I own a 1995 Grand Am V6 3.1L, 163,00 miles on it. I notice that sometimes it makes a loud screeching sound, like a metal rubbing on metal sound in the Spring and Fall time. When I turn the A/C on the sound usually goes away. Does anyone know what this could be?

Re: Screeching Problems 95 Grand Am

My guess would say the AC clutch is going out.

If the compressor is in the same place as a 94,Its on the passenger side bottom of the engine - take a flashlight and look down there and see if you can see any metal shavings there.

you could also get someone to turn the ac on/off while you watch the clutch to see if that is making the noise.

Also sometime sand and road debrie get into the compressor clutch and when it engauges it'll make a scratchy grinding sound.

Though as Grand94AMGT said it could also mean the AC comp is goin south.
