2003 Impala LS. Clunking noise??

1) When I am in reverse and I have the steering wheel turned to the right, I would only hear 1 clunk (but no clunk if the steering wheel is turned to the left). Now I hear multiple clunks. 2) As I accelerate after backing up and the wheels start to straiten up I hear multiple clunks. 3) When I accelerate after a complete stop, I hear the clunk. I was hoping to find out what is causing this noise, what it takes to fix it, and how much is it going to cost to get it fixed??

Check the boots on ur front axles and see if they're torn. Lets hope that clunking isnt coming from the trans.

Sounds like it could be the intermediate steering shaft needing lubricated. Common W-body problem. It could also be worn out tie-rod ends.

Re: 2003 Impala LS. Clunking noise??

Hi,
Can you tell me what happened to your car, and what the problem turned out to be? I am having the same exact issue right now, and am currently $300 into my search for a repair. Any insight you can offer would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Ken

Under the dash on drivers side there is a boot covering the intermidiate steering shaft. Spray some grease into the universal joint both end may take a couple of time, but it stopped the noise. Dealer wanted $80 to do same thing.

Another thing it could be is the swaybar links on the rear of car, there are no grease inserts, so I had to force grease in with a needle attachment on my grease gun, found it at a Ace Hardware store.
