Worker's Comp kicks ass

So I was at work today scraping old price tags off of some game cases when my razor blade slipped and stuck into my hand. I went to the hospital, got 4 stitches, and today and thursday off, with pay. Only to return to limited right hand only work on friday, then a nice long weekend off.

So Workmans Comp pays you for Wednesday and Thursday? I always thought that it was a more difficult process to get it. You have to have a doctor's statement, and file for it, etc. etc. I didn't know they would pay for that short of a term, then again I don't know that much about the system. I know my mother-in-law has been on it since 1992 for a back injury and never returned to work. I thought her benefits would terminate when she reached retirement age, but according to the insurance agent who handles her case for yearly review, they do not.

maybe was that his boss was just like "take the next two days off so it will heal a little and we'll pay you for those days". that way EVERYONE can avoid all the paper work

HMM Sounds like one place I used to work at. They HATED when someone got injured and did everything they could to not fill out any accident report or paperwork. We had this one boss who came around after an employee either quit or was fired asking us if we ever saw him get hurt on the job. Real nice place Hated to follow the rules for fear of losing money.

yeah, i'm sure its unlikely, but some places will try and get around almost anything. especially if it will cost money or tarnish their rep.

Doc said take to days. I gave my HR coordinator all the paper work and filled out a statement.

They will also be paying all the hospital bills and the hand specialist I need to see.

That's the way it used to be. I remember when all we had was our primary care physicians and there really was no "specialists" like there are now. It seems like there is a specialist for every problem or ailment. ( An analogy could be made for the automotive industry as well. Back then there were primarily dealers and independent garages. These garages did everything from exhaust work to front end work to complete rebuilds. Now we have "Muffler shops, front end specialists, and even places that just install batteries.)I guess we can partly blame lawyers and insurance companies for the major changes in health care over the past 20 to 30 years.
