rear end klunk

I have a 1988 2wd 1500 and when I come to a stop sign, I hear a klunk coming from the rear of the truck. I am assuming it is the pumpkin. Can this be adjusted?

No adjustments.
Check for lose U joints and pinion yoke nut first.

Re: rear end klunk

Check your drive train first, like above, U-Joints and Shackles. Also, check the Pinion input yoke at the front of the "pumpkin" to see if it loose. This would be the input bearings.

I had a similar problem on my 92 but it would also give me a 'pinging' sound just after take-off. I replaced the U-joints and transmission mount, no change. When I took the cover off I found the pin going through the differential case holding the spider gears to be loose in the case. This was allowing the spider gears to 'bind' and release on take-off and stop.

Any thoughts?
