Angry 2000 Odyssey Lockout Protection

Twice in the past month my wife has left her keys in her Odyssey ignition, and the doors locked automatically behind her (today it was while the car was still running!) The lockout protection should not have let this happen. Is there something I should look for? I pulled the #12 fuse to try to reset the system, but I checked afterward and the doors still lock with the key in the ignition.

Re: 2000 Odyssey Lockout Protection

Is this an EX or an LX with keyless entry? Does it have the security system?

One thing about Honda is that they use virtually identical wiring systems across several car models of the same range of years. So, I’m pretty sure that my 1998 Accord EX wiring diagram is very similar to your 2000 Odyssey.

There is a switch in the ignition switch that tells the multiplex control unit that you have the key in it. It sounds like it may not be working, and the control unit is allowing it to lock with the key in it. On my diagram, the switch is grounded on one side (black) and the other is blue w/white and that wire goes to the control unit.

So, you might take the lower cover off and see if the blue w/white wire is seeing ground with the key in the ignition.

Also, you might make sure there isn’t another fuse that does to the control unit. My car lists 2 (#12 and #13), both in the passenger's side fuse box.

Hope this helps…that’s a really scary scenario, especially if you have small kids!

Let us know what you find out….Glen
