1995 318 is spark plug tech help

i purchased a 1995 318is coupe it doesn't run. one spark plug looks like the end is smashed. one mechanic says these cars are bad about running lean and mealting the end of the plugs. he says it needs a purge valve and new plugs. does anyone have any advice on this matter. thank you for your input.
