Question 92 Lesabre part changed , code and problem still there

Hi
I have a 92 Lesabre 3800
The SES light has been going on and off
when the SES light is on the car is sluggish when accelerating from a stop
when the light is off the car runs fine
the code that i got was #24 a VSS (vehicle speed sensor)
so I got a new one and it still gives the same code
and I get the same problem
Should I get another part ?
Can I check the part with a meter ?
Is there some wiring problem ? (the wire to the part looks ok)
if so where and what should i be checking for ?

Thanks
any help is appreciated !

The vehicle speed sensor is located at the end of the transmission nearest the passenger side axle on the topside of the transmission case (just to be sure that was indeed the part that you changed). It basically is a magnet that pulses on or off when the teeth of a gear inside your transmission goes around. For your vehicle to throw that code, I imagine the following:

1. Your VSS is bad.
2. The wiring in your VSS circuit is bad.
3. The teeth on your gear are partially ground or destroyed (not very likely).
4. Your car's computer is flaky or shot (again, not likely).
5. I can't think of a fifth one.

Yep I changed the VSS

If I hooked a meter to the part ,what value or resistance would I be looking for to tell if its good or bad ?

any suggestions on how to tell if the wiring is bad other then visual

could I hook a meter to the plug (VSS) ?

Keep in mind that the ECM/PCM may be at fault.

Re: 92 Lesabre part changed , code and problem still there

Thanks for all the responses

i have a feeling that its a transmission related problem

the cars drivable but the tranny is not shifting when it should and this problem happens on and off

i'll read some of the forums about transmissions problems

I was hoping to get another 40k out of her but at a 167k with a leaky gas tank maybe its time to retire my LeSabre
and get another one theres plenty out there !
