Re: What do you guys think?

Alright so I am buying this car here soon. It is a '91 Mitsu. Eclipse GSX AWD w/ 130k and a 5 speed fully built tranny. I am already looking into what I would like to do next and I am considering a Walbro Fuel 255 Fuel pump and then rewireing it. But since I am still just in the learning stage to becoming a Jedi, I need some guidance. This car will never be used as a daily driver, garage kept for the most part. I want to do everything right the first time and I want everything to be sound w/ the car.
http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=560&page=1

I found out that shes running about 15psi and the car has a crushed BOV. Now I was looking into the Greedy RS BOV but those are mad expensive for something that I have that already works.

What should be the next mods I should be looking at? I was looking into possibly a FMIC but I am not at all familiar w/ how they are installed or what they are capable of or what specs you need to have one but like I said any guidance is better than none at all. Thanks guys.

Re: What do you guys think?

Sounds like your friend is full of shit. Stock boost on a 1g is 10 psi and to the best of my knowledge the stock compression is 160... theres no way I can think of it would be turning out 180 psi like that. Not to mention its obviously been raced a bunch. I dont know Ned, I would pass if I were you. Also, what the hell is a "6000 hole shot"?

Re: What do you guys think?

I'm guessing he dumped the clutch at 6k and broke something. With my recent compression tests I did some reading up on them. I've read that if alot of carbon is built up on the piston then that will boost the compression giving a false reading. Or maybe he did a wet compression test and boosted the numbers up. Either way though with a car thats been abused like that and has 130k, and hasn't had a rebuild or anything I call bullshit on the flawless compression numbers.

Re: What do you guys think?

The car really hasn't been raced, it has been tested to the limit I guess but I'm looking for a project car not a daily driver. I expect to do a rebuild some time in the future any way so I'm not really worried about it. This guy has taken care of this car I truly feel that it hasn't been abused a whole lot, I know dropping the clutch at 6 grand isn't taking care of the car but I'm sure everyone here has done some dumb things just like this so I'm not worried about it. Besides he's a good friend of mine and I've watched him w/ this car and he really takes care of things. He has checked the transfer case religiously for leaks as well as changing the timing belt.

So I am buying this car and just never mind how you feel if you would or wouldn't buy this car but what would you do with modding with what I've got?

Re: What do you guys think?

Ya he already said stuff broke due to him racing. Unless you're pulling the motor, I think that's a bad idea. Race cars are bad to buy 2nd hand.

Re: What do you guys think?

I'm not like attempting to defend him but by him saying the work racing could have easily meant accelerating fast, attempting to get to point A to B faster, such as if I were to say "I raced to KFC before they closed cause I really could go for some potato Wedges". So he could have meant anything by that.

And perhaps you guys are right but I have a good feeling about this car.

Re: What do you guys think?

Dropping the clutch at 6k most likely means he was doing some kind of street/track racing. There's no way people just do it for the hell of it while driving to the store or whatever. Unless he was practicing his launch, doing it for no reason is just stupid. If you already plan on doing a rebuild and fixing the problems then go ahead and get it. As long as you think it's worth it, then thats all that really matters.

Nice story and could be, but look at what he says

Doesn't sound anywhere close to "racing" to KFC.

You asked what we thought. And we're telling you what we think. If it's worth it to you then do it. But you asked us, the general public. You know we'll always help you modify it, but maintenance and keeping it running is important also. Which is why we pointed out the little things that makes us believe that this may not be the best purchase... but again, that's out opinions and we're entitled to them.

And honestly, this just sounds like an ad.
