Unhappy steering pump problem?

Today i was acting a little stupid and driving around a parking lot doing some fun turns with friends, then out of nowhere this loud rarring noise started and got worse as i turned the wheel. i came to a stop and found the noise was coming from the power steering pump area. I popped the hood (but it was dark) so i couldnt really see anything. I turned the car off for a few minutes, and when i turned it back on it was still there, but went away as i drove. I know this happened to me once before in another time but went away in seconds. Whats the problem? any idea?

I have the exact same problem. If I turn the car aggressively while driving I will hear a loud humming noise from the engine compartment, at the same time my steering becomes more difficult. It also makes the noise sound different when I turn the wheel as it hums. It usually goes away after driving for awhile or leaving the car off.

I checked fluids etc and came to the conclusion that the pump is going bad... I have not fixed it yet because I am dumping money into performance I guess I need to get it fixed...

Anyone else recommend anything we can do to further diagnose the issue?

Re: steering pump problem?

If the fluid level is up, then it's a power steering pump problem. Fairly common on GM W-bodies.
