SS worth it?

Hey guys, just wondering is you think $10,900 is a fair price for a '96 SS. I mean the thing is in great shape, and you could literally eat from the bottom of it. Hasn't seen any winters, which around here are terrible. Its a 6 speed with only 30,000 miles on it. I'm looking to pick it up, and the blue book value on it is around 7 grand, but they dont exactly count rarity in with their estimates. I dont know, just wondering what you guys think.

Re: SS worth it?

If you like it get it. Try and talk them down alil if you can. But 30k miles is super low for a 96

Re: SS worth it?

yeah, the only thing keeping that SS OVER ~7K is the mileage. even a really clean SS thats not a LS1, (unless its a LT4) that has normal mileage for that year (over100K) will go only for 7-8K. unless its heavily modified. then it MIGHT go for more, prolly not.

Re: SS worth it?

Yeah well the guy just dropped the price from 12900, and he said this is as low as he'd go, and if no one buys it, he would just store it. But i dont know, I'm thinking about just keeping my car, and with some of the money i saved up, modding it a bit, get into the 14's, and be the only one with a 3.8 maro around me to do it. Which reminds me, i know they dont make kits, and i've seen what that guy with the yellow one did on the internet (viper or whatever), but does anyone have any thoughts on turbocharging a 3.8, or where to go to even start looking. Is it possible to customize a turbo from something else?

Re: SS worth it?

turbocharging a 3.8 is going to cost a lot. simply because no-one makes and off-the-shelf kit to do it.

for a good setup, single turbo and all you're probably looking at $4,500 to turbo it to maybe 400bhp at the wheels.

Re: SS worth it?

yeah i toyed with that idea when i had my 96rs, and it costs too damn much!! ended up rebuilding the moter, forging the bottom end and spraying the shit out of it!! that was fun, and alot cheaper

Re: SS worth it?

Ever thought about a remote mount turbo. Scrap one together, may not be easy but it will be relatively cheap compared to a turbo kit. I doubt you would even need an intercooler, but sure wouldn't hurt. I saw a stock motor Jeep Wrangler 4.0 about a 98' model on Drag Times. This damn thing ran like 13.80 1/4 mile, turbo was off of a Volvo 850 and totally homebrew. It would suck to get your ass handed to you by one of those. This was only with about 4 lbs of boost.

Re: SS worth it?

What color is it, and where can I find it?

10,900 is a little high, but, that is one hard to find car!

Re: SS worth it?

10,900 is pretty fair i think. i'd jump on that. i was looking around for lt1 f-bodies last yr and they were running 9k with a ton of miles.
