jolt on throttle lift?

my car jolts a bit on throttle lift, pretty much at any speed in any gear and harshness depends on how fast i lift off the throttle. i didn't think much about it because my old car did it too but on the track it causes some issues for me because it unsettles the balance of the car. it also makes smooth driving around a parking lot kindof hard. is this a common thing and is there a way to fix it? i notice pretty much no newer cars do it so it makes me think that something somewhere needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Have you checked motor mounts?

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

Screw that. You can get solids from Maximal Performance for ~$200

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

are motor mounts something that someone with very basic mechanic's skills could do?

also, off topic but i'm pretty sure my plugs are bad cuz i just went down to the strip yesterday and my best time was a 13.9 @ ~100 with 14ish psi, which is much slower that i was hoping for (i was hoping at least mid/low 13's). i know i felt the top end lose strength even when at full boost and there was definitly the feel of spark blow out. i hear the front 3 plugs are easy but if my car is going into the shop this tuesday for the throw out bearing should i just ask how much it would be to do the rears or is this something that i should do myself? also, where is the best place to get ngk plats? on the web or a store?

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

You would know it if you had plug blow out. Car would be studdering badly.

As for your time your trap is decent. What was your 60'?

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

60' was 2.100 on my best run. i only hit 13.9 once and after that i was between 14.2 and 14.6.

it definitly felt like spark blow out to me, it was especially noticeable in 3rd gear. it would stutter a little on its way up the tach. the car has felt a little slow since i messed up my BOV install and ran really rich and i suspected it was bad plugs. right after the install, it actually wouldnt go past ~5000 in 3rd because it would completely misfire and almost seemed like i was hitting a really obtrusive rev limiter. it's gotten better since then but i can only guess that one or more of the plugs isn't firing as strong as it should. the car has had some weird idle tendencies since i ran super rich as well.

my shop said it owuld be about $130+tax to do the rear plugs for me so I think i'm going to try to tackle that for myself. how hard is it to do motor mounts?

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

Could just be fouling plugs and not necessarily blow out. Do the plugs yourself and save a ton of money. Its seriously cake work.

Motor mounts arent really super hard. Hardest one is the rear.

Re: jolt on throttle lift?

so after my trip to my mechanic, we decided that it was an easily fixable loose heatsheild making the rattle... not the hard to fix throw-out bearing. i guess that'll teach me to try and diagnose my own problems, lol.

while i was there though i talked to him about my motor mounts being worn and he said that they were pretty solid. its a manageable problem though, i can pretty much stop it from jolting alltogether by just being careful on throttle lifts. i was just concerned something might need fixing.
