Which is the best looking Charger ever?

I used to think the 1968 Charger was the best looking car ever. But now I am leaning towards a ’66.

I think the 1966 Dodge Charger was a radical departure from the Ford’s and Chevy’s of the day and it just looks cool.

I really don’t care for the 1971 Charger. I have always thought it was too big.

The new Chargers are definitely competent and probably better performers than their namesake. But I don’t see it as a pretty car.

In the end I have to vote for the 1966.

What do you guys think? Have I lost my mind in my old age???

Re: Which is the best looking Charger ever?

Nothing beats the original, 1966 & 1967 Chargers. I love the revolving headlights, the one-piece taillight, four bucket seats and the fold-down feature making it just as good a hauler as a station wagon.

Of the second generation (1968 through 1970), I like the 1970 the best. The front bumper that completely surrounded the grill was awesome. It looked like a shark ready to suck up anything that got in the way. The taillight treatment of the 1969 & 1970 was much better than the 1968.

Of the third generation (1971 to 1974), I liked the 1971 the best.

From then on, they just got worse. The 2006 and newer cars are decent in their own right, but they just don't fit the mold set by the original Chargers.

A side note, I understand that the original Charger was conceived and built with the original intention to be the first turbine-engined car on the market. However, the turbine engine was dropped late in development.

Im a young kid, work at a chryser dealer. I think the new chargers are nicer then most new cars. But for sure 68 or 69 are my favorites, i think they look the most agressive.

'69 "500"... (very unique and not as "in your face" as the wing things)

Gotta admit, though, the "new" Charger has grown on me. Not a bad looking car at all! Too bad there's no 2-door...

Re: Which is the best looking Charger ever?

I have to place my vote for the '66/'67 fastback Chargers. I've got a '66 in restoration and have become quite impressed with the 60's era Dodge engineering.

While I would agree with you, I must point out this thread is pretty old.
Generally, older threads should not be resurrected because it can be annoying to others.
We would welcome a new thread on the Charger, if you wish to continue the discussion.
However, this thread is now closed.
