Autobahn Experience

Hitting 142mph on the A31, while trying to catch an SLK. My car was a rental 4-cylinder MB (E200K). Sorry for the shitty music but I had to keep atleast one hand on the wheel. Also, I drove it on the Nürburgring the next morning (of course) but was unable to produce a video (forbidden and I was the only one in the car). (220kph = 137-138mph) P.S. I know this is no insane amount of speed. It was simply the fastest car I could obtain at the age of 21. Furthermore, the best part was the next morning, in traffic, driving with all windows down and the radio blaring going 135 and not having to worry about my radar detector or the cops. |

at first i was thinking "what's wrong with the music" then "oooooh that's what he's talking about".
anyways, that's pretty decent. why are cameras forbiden? was it because you didn't have a camera mount or because they're just completely banned? what time did you get for your lap?

A few years back they just said the general public cannot film in-car on trackdays anymore. There are a few theories floating around, but I assume its incase something goes wrong, they do not want to appear liable. When I go back I will hopefull have a passenger next time and I will just film with my phone like I did in this video. But there is no way you can drive on a serious racetrack like this and try to record a video yourself.
On the laptime. I did not have a timer; however, I did check the clock, it was something under 12 but I am not sure where. I just wanted the experience of driving there. I was not driving slow though; almost lost it trying to catch a little ford focus through a right angle turn with abrupt elevation change on entry. Also, it was a $45,000 rental car with no insurance on the track, so I had that in the back of my mind the entire time as well. Lastly, this car was well overweight and underpowered. Next time I am taking the BMW 1 series or Audi A3 (whichever they give me). |
