I have a 1996 JGC and the power roof clicks but does not open when you push the switch. I have tried to force it back to open it, fuses seem ok. Any ideas anyone. Where is the motor to check it? and how do I get to it, does the headliner have to come off as well as the pillars in the interior?
Any help is appreciated, as there is little to no info on this here on AF or on the net for my jeep. |

Re: Power sunroof
Pry open your wallet
![]() The motor is behind the sunroof between the headliner and the roof. It is driven by two cables that are (for lack of a better way of putting it) ribbed. The motor drives the ribs and the cable is attached to the track. Usually the issue is the guide at the end of the track breaks free (is soldered) from the track and allows the roof to skew out of square. Once this happens, the class binds in the track and the cables "skip" in the drive assembly...this is the clicking you hear. Your best bet is a complete assembly (minus the glass) which wholesale is about $1500.00. If I remember, the retail if you don't have a wholesale account is close to $3k. You can get some replacement parts, but it’s a pain in the neck to get everything working again.

Re: Power sunroof
mine does the same thing.
but the motor is easy to take out. just pop the 2 headliner retaining 'things' and take the trim around the glass itself off and the rear accesory lights out and u can pull the liner down enough to reach the motor and remove it. however, i bought a new motor and it did not fix the problem. the new motor worked fine but it seem like there was no power going to the motor. if anyone knows anything please help |
