1975 mgb alternator issues

I have a 1975 MGB and recently replace the battery and alternator and now it is not charging. I wonder if I put the 3 prong plug on the alternator wrong. Does the red locking button go up or down. The plug goes into the alternator either way. If I did plug it in wrong, maybe I burnt it out?

Shouldn't you be able to disconnect a battery terminal once the car is started and it should stay running if the alternator is good?

My alternator is still under warranty, so I may just bring it back too.

Thanks for the help!

Tom

Re: 1975 mgb alternator issues

Disconnecting the battery cable while the car is running will burn out the alternator. It should never be done.
Does the ignition light come on while the car is on and not running?
Look at a wiring diagram for your car to determine what color wires should be connected to what terminals on the alternator. Wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on stock schematics. Find the diagram that best matches your car.

Thanks for responding! I found out that my alternator and battery were bad AGAIN. The parts store warranteed the alternator and upgraded me to a better model. and the battery was under warrantee too. So, it was a "free" fix, just my time.
Thanks again!
