Automatic Door Locks

the owner before me disabled the automatic door locks on my 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo. The doors will not lock by themselves when the Jeep goes over 15mph. How do you turn this feature back on? I don't want to take the Jeep to the dealer for something as simple as this. Thanks.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

No setting in the VIC console? That's where the door lock options are in my '01, should be similar in the '98 center VIC.

The only thing I have close to a VIC is the overhead console that tells me the temperature and compass, DTE and MPG. I called the previous owner to ask him and he said that he had them disabled by the dealer. I'm trying to avoid that I mean it can't be that hard to do.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

You'd think so -- like a relay or fuse, but it may a DRB II programmable only affair.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

You don't have a display near the center/bottom whatever in your dash where the radio and climate controls are?

No I don't have that feature. It just displays the status of the 4WD. I know what your talking about though. I know other Jeeps have the Information Center that tells you the date, when a door is open, etc. I just picked up another Grand Cherokee (same year and model as mine) with all the same equipment as mine and the doors do lock once over 15mph. This is why I am trying to figure out how to turn mine back on because like I said, the previous owner had the feature turned off.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

You're going to need to take it to the dealer. . . . . . .

ok. have any of you had this done before? i'm curious to know how much it is going to cost me. I know that the dealer has to use a DRB scanner. I really hate dealers they get all the cool stuff

Re: Automatic Door Locks

Anyone have any idea when the feature first appeared? My 93 doesn't do that.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

the cost is about $50-$60. Regardless of how many features are programmed. So if you have more features you want enabled, get them done all at once. for example, a horn chirp when locking the doors with the remote. Check your owners manual for features that need to be programmed.

Re: Automatic Door Locks

I'm not sure on the price cause I had a friend that worked at the dealership !
But 50-60 bucks sounds about right. . . .
