NoFireNeon(code43)

I just replace the belts on my '95 neon (sohc) after they came off for the second time. Didn't realize the first time that the crank pulley was not fully installed.

But the first time they came off, the car still ran off battery power long enough to get home. The second time they came off, the car sputtered, stalled and would not start, or even try. Both times the belts wrapped around the crank inside the pulley.

So, now that it's sat a while, I got it on the lift to check things out, fully install the pulley and replace the alternator (toast from sitting).
I charged the battery and checked for codes again. The dead batt. no doubt cleared the codes. BUT, after attempting to start it again, it popped a code 43.
We checked for fuel pressure at the rail, good, spark at the plug wires, good.
Then we sprayed starting fluid straight into TB and tried again. Would not even attempt to fire, but cranked fine.
Still code 43.
Any ideas?????

Re: NoFireNeon(code43)

"Peak primary circuit current not achieved with the maximum dwell time." I believe there can still be spark at the wires, but if they are sending too low of a current it will cause that code. My guess is one or more of your wires has this problem. Usually it is either, or, or both.

Re: NoFireNeon(code43)

I'll try new wires, then failing that, I'm guessing coil pak?
Maybe just a coincidence that it tanked when the belts were thrown?
That's hard to believe though. It ran strong just before the belts went.

Re: NoFireNeon(code43)

The 3 pin connecter plug going to the Coil Pack might have intermitant connections from corrosion. If the plug wires do not work, it would either be this, replace the coil pack, or plugs. That is all I can think of without being there and looking at it myself. Just try each one, and see if you can eliminate having to replace something that still functions fine. I've never had this problem myself, yet. (knocks on wood)
